With a remarkable history that began in the 1880’s, the Ojai Olive Oil Company continues to garner praise for its one-of-a-kind product. With 95% of the United States' extra virgin olive oil coming from California, the Family owned and operated vineyard tasted victory with a Gold Medal at the NYIOOC for Ojai Olive Oil "Provençale.” The New York International Olive Oil Competition -- NYIOOC -- is the largest and most prestigious olive oil tasting competition in the world.

Philip Asquith noted, "We are once again honored to receive these many honors for our product. Once again, we are among the very few US companies to win medals in New York. This year, we also collected more Gold Medals than any one company. It could easily be argued that we are considered the #1 extra virgin olive oil in the US this year. We're very proud of that claim."

Philip Asquith noted, “We are once again honored to receive these many honors for our product. Once again, we are among the very few US companies to win medals in New York. The Mediterranean climate in Ojai is perfect for a wide range of agriculture, and happens to be particularly ideal for olives. The main olive grove on the Ojai Olive Oil ranch was planted in the 1880s, back in the era of the Spanish Missions, when there was a communal olive press in the valley. At that time, the valley produced a good quantity of olive oil, and the trees thrived in the area. Their suitability to the Ojai climate is evident in the fact that the trees on this ranch have survived for over a century, without much care for most of that time. Through droughts, wildfires, and storms, the olive trees have persevered. One of Ojai’s Award-Winning Extra Virgin Olive Oils comes from these beautiful old trees, a Lechin de Sevilla varietal that produces a wonderfully robust and peppery olive oil.

Additionally, Ojai Olive Oil picks all of their olives by hand in order to be more selective in what fruit is being harvested. This also allows the company to pick at the same rate that they process, keeping the time from tree to mill to an absolute minimum. This is critical, and is something that can only be done when farming on a small to moderate scale. Huge operations make many sacrifices to improve profitability, most of which hurt the quality of the olive oil. Ojai Olive Oil does everything with making the best possible olive oil as their primary goal, regardless of difficulty or cost.

Asquith adds, “Extra virgin olive oil is what we do best. When we first started up, we had but one product - a tall cobalt blue bottle of extra virgin oil produced from our grove of 130 year old Spanish olive trees. Over the years we have expanded our offering and enlarged our groves, but making the region’s best olive oil remains the core of what we do.”
